Referrals & Links: Therapists and On-Line Support Groups

Therapist Referrals:
- Sidran Institute. Sidran offers resources of all types, including a database of professionals and organizations throughout the world. To request information, please e-mail help@sidran.org. Letters can be addressed to the Resource Specialist, Sidran Institute, 200 E. Joppa Road, Suite 207, Towson, MD 21286. Phone calls are taken between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., E.S.T. at 410-825-8888. When returning phone messages, the Resource Specialist will identify herself as calling from the Sidran Institute. No further explanation will be given about the purpose of the call.
- International Society for the Study of Dissociation: The ISSD offers referrals to therapists who are members of their organization. Not all therapists who are members of the ISSD are supportive of DID. Therefore, it might be best to compare their list with Sidran's list of professionals in your area.

- Bodies Under Seige: An email support group for self-injury can be found at Bodies Under Seige. This site also maintains a list of crisis telephone lines for various issues.
- Multiple Treasures: If you're looking for support groups with an obvious Christian aspect (since many abuse and dissociation groups may not allow or encourage religious beliefs to be discussed), check out Multiple Treasures.
- Alt.Support.Dissociation Newsgroup: One of the calmer and better moderated (to remove spam) newsgroups. Newsgroups can be difficult to engage in at first, but some people prefer them over email-based groups. This link will take you to their frequently asked questions file, known as a FAQ, which has helpful information about MPD, abuse, and dissociation.
Crisis Hotlines: Cool Nurse lists many free telephone-based crisis hotlines for a wide variety of issues.
